Welcome to another feature that will be running on the blog. This is Game Spot. In this series I will be either updating you on my progress on the "Be A Pro" mode in EA Sports' NHL 18 game or as a General Manager on Franchise Hockey Manager 4. It will vary and is something different to the normal blogs. Enjoy..
In this first edition, we have started a new Be A Pro career mode on NHL 18. I've always liked this feature in the games more than the rest as it enables you to "live the dream" out. So how the opening foray pan out?
Well we started out as a 18 year old centre at Lethbridge Hurricanes in the Western Hockey League. Lethbridge is of course the home town of Manchester Storm Head Coach Ryan Finnerty but "Finner" never actually played for them. We also decided to set ourselves up as a sniper, that to the untrained means that we're obsessed in scoring goals and loads of them too. Occasionally we will look to set up our team-mates for strikes of their own but we just want to light that lamp a lot.
The game started in the Memorial Cup part of the season which is the play-off series after the regular season ends. It started off well, with a goal in our opening game against the Erie Otters; in fact it was the game winner in a 2-1 win. Not a bad start indeed. Game two was another win, 4-2 against Windsor Spitfires and we contributed again with a couple of goals. However all good things must come crashing down and they did in game three as we crashed 6-1 to Saint John Sea Dogs in a horrible performance, we just couldn't hit the target although we did get a helper in our sole strike.
Despite the reverse we had made the final four, but could we go on and win the thing? It certainly would improve our draft position if we did. The semi-final pitted us up against the Spitfires again. This time we lost, 6-3. Although we scored one which at the time hauled us back to within one at 4-3, the Spitfires took charge again and came out winners. End of the Memorial Cup road. Next up was the 2018 NHL draft.
We did get picked in the first round with the 30th pick by this team:
Picked up by the 2017 Western Conference champions and runners-up to the Penguins in the actual big prize. We'll take that for sure. Our first game for the Predators, and where we will actually leave this particular episode, was a pre-season exhibition game against the St. Louis Blues. It's started off good with a goal and an assist in a 4-0 win so hopefully we can play our way in the plans of Peter Laviolette for the 2017-18 season. Although it wouldn't hurt to spend some time in the AHL if that's what they want us to do.
We'll be back with a further update shortly.
